Dutch solar mobility pioneer Lightyear has secured a spot on Time Magazine’s prestigious list of the World’s Top GreenTech Companies of 2025. Often described as the "Oscars of cleantech," the list features 250 of the most innovative and impactful companies worldwide working on solutions to combat climate change.
Lightyear ranks 70th on the global list, which was compiled by Time in collaboration with data analytics firm Statista, following an in-depth analysis of over 8,000 companies across six continents. Only 250 companies made the cut, selected for their real-world environmental impact, financial performance, and innovation.
Solar Vision
Lightyear has shifted its focus to integrating its solar technology into other manufacturers' EV platforms, making clean mobility more accessible on a larger scale.
Despite past setbacks, Lightyear’s core technology and vision remain highly relevant. According to Time, its continued push to embed solar energy into the future of transportation is exactly the kind of long-term thinking the cleantech sector needs.
Dutch Innovation on the Global Stage
Lightyear is one of six Dutch companies featured on this year’s list. Together, these companies reflect the Netherlands’ strength in solar power.
The selection process was rigorous. Companies were assessed on their ability to reduce environmental impact (like cutting CO₂ emissions or producing renewable energy), financial robustness, and technological innovation, especially those backed by patented research.
A Signal to the World
Inclusion on Time's green ranking is more than a recognition, it's a message to investors, partners, and the public that these companies are shaping a sustainable future. For Lightyear, it’s a reaffirmation of their role in that future, with solar mobility remaining a powerful symbol of clean tech innovation.
